Who’s Looking?

9.26.2011

Who hates moving? Right, everyone. What about actually looking for that new place to live? A majority as well. I know this and so does my company Vesta Preferred. We work with clients to help make apartment hunting a breeze and keep you stress free for the other aspects of your life. Hell, we’ll even drive you through the traffic stricken streets of Chitown so you don’t have to worry about playing Twisted Metal with cab drivers. That being said, a surprising number of people still choose to wade into the thick themselves and find their own apartments. There are hundreds of places that you can do this but a majority happens online with different sites like Craigslist, Domu, Hotpads, and Trulia. One of these draws in users with all kinds of innovative ways to look at real estate data which, face it, can be downright boring.

I stumbled upon this pretty awesome interactive chart that turned out to be fairly useful for myself when advertising apartments online. The chart allows you to look at what day and time during the week most people are looking for housing. You can break it down to individual states and even separate by computer or mobile searches. Here is one for Illinois:

Just a quick look at this shows me that a surprising amount of people looking for homes are doing little to no actual work at their jobs. Lucky for you I’m posting these after the workday is over, otherwise you would probably be reading this at work too. I did a quick comparison with my home state of Michigan and found out that us Michiganders are more likely to wait until later at night to even remember that we might need to move soon.

Play around with this thing a little and see how different things are all over the country. If anything, the bright colors will keep your attention for a couple of minutes.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll see you next week. And Illinois, get back to work! Unless you’re like Vesta, tirelessly searching the Interwebs to help out renters. Send me a message if YOU need help!

Rolling Real Estate

9.26.2011

Living in your posh downtown condo is pretty sweet. You have your awesome view of the city and the lake, super upgraded kitchen finishes, more square footage than you have furniture for, even a spunky doorman who knows your name and makes you feel like a someone important. The only problem is that you are stuck in one place. Hopefull you have more money than sense so you can buy something like this!

Can you even call this a motor home? When I think of people driving around in a recreational vehicle it looks something like this…

Usually piloted by your Grandpa who probably wont hesitate to turn that thing around at any moment if you don’t stop hitting your brother. That whopper up top costs about three million dollars and would need to be the last thing you ever bought. I would be afraid to even park that anywhere that campground hooligans on Huffys could scuff my paint. Plus, how ridiculous would that look with your Buick Roadmaster hitched to the back?

I would be much more inclined to roll around in something with a little more muscle under the hood, or the side skirt as it were…

Drive safe and I’ll catch you on the flip side!

The Beginning

9.26.2011

A quick intro about me and what I hope this blog will accomplish:

My name is Martin Hueter and I am a real estate consultant for the Chicago area working for a company called Vesta Preferred in their efforts to take over the real estate world. Mid-twenties, fun-loving, and with the world and its opportunities spread before me to be plucked like the ripest of fruits. I truly love what I do in every regard from meeting strange and interesting people, helping them slog through the stressful journey that can be apartment hunting, and getting a first-hand view of the awesome living spaces that are scattered throughout the city.

I hope this blog can be a fun and interesting way to show people different real estate related items and incite stimulating conversation for all you who will hopefully be my loyal followers. I also hope to expand my network within the city and possibly stir up some people that need help searching for the perfect new home. I can only hope that my charm and humor will be accurately shown through these words and they are enough to suck you all in.

With that being said, tune in tomorrow for my first actual post. I hope to update this phenomenal blog every Tuesday and Thursday.

Catch you on the flip side!
